Not much can compare to the freedom of a road trip through Scotland’s countryside. Rather than outline a specific route to take we will count down the best natural sites Scotland has to offer. Picture miles of open scenery or cruising along the coastline, as you embark upon a Scottish road trip to remember.

5. Duncansby

Discover Scotland’s stunning north west and north coast until arriving at John o’ Groats, the last frontier and most northern tip of the British mainland. On your way you’ll experience some of Europe’s most magnificent scenery  filled with wild mountains and lochs, salmon rivers perfect for fishing, rugged coastlines with mighty sea cliffs such as those at Duncansby.

4. Durness

In the north west of Scotland there are thriving fishing villages such as Ullapool. From there you can head further north through the magnificent mountain country of the Northern Highlands, passing the quaint villages of Achiltibuie, Lochinver and Kinlochbervie as you make for the sandy beaches of Durness in the far north west corner of Scotland. Pristine sandy beaches await you here but be prepared for a very cold swim for anyone brave enough to take a dip!

3. Loch Ness

Loch Ness is the second largest Scottish loch by surface area at 22 sq mi (56 km2) after Loch Lomond, but due to its impressive depth, it is the largest by volume in the British Isles. It contains more fresh water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined! And who knows..? Maybe you’ll catch a snap of The Loch Ness Monster while you’re there!

4. Fort William and Glencoe

One of the original battle grounds of clan warfare and the site of an infamous massacre in 1692, Glencoe is one of the most haunting and dramatic places in Scotland. Located in the North-West of Scotland beside Loch Leven, it is often used as a popular base for climbers and hikers targeting Ben Nevis and other surrounding mountains.

Connected to Scotland’s northwest coast by bridge, is known for its rugged landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles. Known as the ‘Misty Isle’ it’s one of Scotland’s gems and deserves it famous reputation for breathtaking scenery, outdoor pursuits, and top class food and hospitality.
