Costa Smeralda

The first stop on our motorhome route is Olbia, a coastal city in northeast Sardinia, Italy. Starting with things to do in Olbia, you can admire some of the beautiful architecture such as the 19th century buildings such as the City Hall and San Paolo Church. Lose yourself on the steep rugged streets of the historic center, visit the Mura Puniche ruins and relax at Pittulongu beach.

Just outside of Olbia you can drive your motorhome through beautiful landscapes: the vibrant blue sea and green Mediterranean forest are sure to catch your eye on the road to Golfo Aranci. Let yourself be charmed by the natural beauty of the beaches of the coast. You can take a boat trip to visit beautiful coves, such as Cala Moresca.

You’re likely to bump into some celebrities on holidays if you stop by the luxurious Porto Cervo. This is the most famous seaside resort in Sardinia and is a firm for many stars all over the world.

Head in your motorhome along the coast. Admire the lush vegetation and typical white rocks of this area on your way Palau. Leave your motorhome at the seaside resort of Palau and take a ferry to Maddalena, the largest island in the archipelago classified natural park. Enjoy the panoramic view on a stroll that goes around the island and the wild beauty of the surrounding nature. If you have time we advise you to visit the other neighbouring islands such as Caprera, famous for its pink sand beach.

With its historic city center and its typical local handicraft market, Santa Teresa di Gallura is a village worth visiting. At sunset, you can stare out at the white cliffs of Bonifacio in Corsica. Castelsardo is another village that is worth seeing. Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, this fishing village will transport you back in time: narrow and steep alleys, the smell of fresh seafood and entangled fishing nets make this a unique place.

The West Coast: From Asinara to Sinis

Along the beautiful coast of Gallura in a motorhome, you will arrive at the north-western tip of the island. The main town, Porto Torres, is also an ideal spot to start a holiday in Sardinia. Those who already own a vehicle can bring their motorhome on a ferry from Italy. For others, we advise you to hire a motorhome from local owners in Sardinia.

You can then head to Stintino, north of Porto Torres, a city in the Province of Sassari. This beautiful place characterized by it’s white sand beach and an extremely clear sea will seem like heaven! As the destination is very touristy, it will be difficult to find a parking space for your motorhome. We advise you to reserve in advance an area to park your vehicle in Stintino.

Offshore, the island of Asinara, known as National Park, offers a wild and unspoilt nature. It is possible to visit the island on foot during excursions or by bike but also by boat. Indulge in these beautiful beaches and enjoy the many panoramic viewpoints to capture breathtaking scenery. Don’t leave Asinara without meeting the white donkeys, typical of the island.

Going south on the west coast, stop at Capo Cassia to admire the white cliffs plunging into the turquoise sea. From the limestone promontory of Capo you’ll have to climb the 656 steps of a staircase carved into the rock, to the marvelous Neptune’s Grotto.

Go back on the roads to discover splendid panoramas and preserved archaeological sites, before arriving to Alghero. Strongly influenced by Catalonia in the past, this city still maintains a strong link with this Spanish community and radiates its artistic and cultural richness. Treat yourself to an aperitif along one of the coastal towns, and at sunset dine with an excellent dish of spaghetti with bottarga, a Mediterranean specialty.

Continue the route in your motorhome to Bosa. The road between Bosa and Alghero follows the winding curves of the coast and overlooks the sea. Marvel at spectacular scenery alternating between wild reefs and secluded coves. Once in Bosa experience the shimmering colors of its houses and the imposing castle that dominates the city. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the Temo River and relax on Bosa Marina Beach, where you can enjoy a wonderful sunset with a glass of Malvasia, a famous local wine.

Sardinia to Bosa

Our route continues to the south and the next destination of our itinerary in Sardinia is the Sinis Peninsula: a unique natural site where you can practice a multitude of outdoor activities.

Two sites are unavoidable in our opinion: the natural formation dug in the limestone rock located in S'Archittu and the splendid quartz beach of Is Aruttas, nicknamed the "Beach with grains of rice". Reach the tip of the Sinis Peninsula and visit the incredible archaeological site of Tharros. Continuing your journey along the Costa Verde towards the south. Discover unspoiled and authentic places where you can relax or immerse yourself in the folklore and Sardinian culture.

The South of Sardinia

The southern coast of Sardinia will offer unforgettable memories in the heart of unspoilt natural landscapes, much less crowded than the north coast.

Going down the coast, the next stop on our itinerary in southern Sardinia is the Costa del Iglesiente. From Cala Domestica to the beach Piscinas, the steep landscape and the picturesque environment will give you the most Authentic Sardinian experience. Before visiting the charming town of Iglesias, we recommend you to check out the Faraglioni
Sea stacks (133 meters high). These pieces of rock are detached from the coast and are often nicknamed Pan di Zucchero or Sugar Loaf in French. Don’t miss the island of Sant'Antioco, connected to the mainland by a short bridge. Take the opportunity to go on a boat trip and visit paradisiac coves.

Continue south along Strada Panoramica della Costa del Sud, a beautiful coastal road. Explore the route from Sulcis to discover the kilometers of beach frequented by many surfers before arriving in Chia. We advise you to take a tour of the Su Giudeu and Sa Colonia dunes.

Chia, Sardinia

Not far from here, the charming village of Palu opens its arms. Head to the nearby promontory to visit the beautiful archaeological site of Nora, an ancient Phoenician and Roman city.

We arrive at the end of our itinerary but for some Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, can be an ideal starting point to rent a motorhome in Sardinia thanks to the many low cost flights that go there.
