If you’re looking for amazing landscapes with stunning views, thrilling outdoor adventures or chilled relaxation, and a whole lot of heritage, then a Lake District holiday should be next on your list.

Known as the birthplace of modern tourism in the UK, this area has captured poets, artists, and photographers ever since - is there a more perfect place to bring your motorhome and enjoy some fantastic experiences? Probably not, but if you need some more convincing, just keep reading!

Lake District Motorhome Camping Sites

Staying in a tent can be great, but sometimes you want the comfort - and warmth! - of a motorhome. Whether you’re bringing the family, want to be near all the attractions, or wish to go back to basics, you’ll be able to find the perfect site in the Lake District.

Wasdale Campsite

Open all year round; this camping site is located in a remote valley surrounded by towering mountains and a beautiful lake - it doesn’t get more idyllic than that!

The hard-standing pitches have electric hook-ups, and facilities include a refurbished toilet and shower block, a laundry room, an on-site shop, and even charge points for electric bikes.

This is a perfect spot for cyclists and hikers alike, but be aware that it can get a bit adventurous - especially if you choose to climb Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England!

Ravenglass Camping and Caravanning Club Site

If you’d rather keep your walks at least moderately flat, then this is the campsite you want to stay at. Situated by the quaint Roman fishing village that shares its name, this site is mere minutes away from the seaside.

The pitches are both grass and hard-standing with electric hook-ups, and you’ll also find showers and toilets along with laundry facilities. Pets are allowed, and there’s a pub nearby should you get a bit thirsty.

Church Style Farm and Holiday Park

Bring the whole family - including your dog! - to this award-winning campsite with breathtaking views, a playground for the kids, and picnic tables and fire pits available to hire. Park on a hard-standing pitch with electric hook-ups, and enjoy a fully fitted shower block along with the fully-stocked on-site farm shop. There are plenty of opportunities for walking, climbing, and kayaking, and you’ll be close to both mountains and lakes, including Wastwater, the deepest lake in England.

Hoathwaite Campsite

A little simpler but equally charming and idyllic, this campsite is situated in the most stunning of locations and offers direct access to the shore of Coniston Water, a gorgeous lake surrounded by many walking and cycle routes, all easy to get to from your motorhome door. You can even launch a non-powered boat from the site! Once you’re ready to call it a night, there are both toilet, shower, and washing-up facilities at your disposal.

Thirlspot Farm Camping

This peaceful and relaxing adult-only campsite suitable for dog owners, walkers, and cyclists alike shares its space with a rural sheep farm, making for amazing views of the grazing animals. Choose between grass and hard-standing pitches with electric hook-ups and make use of the toilet and shower facilities before starting to explore the many trails making their way through the stunning surrounding nature, and then finish off the day with a pint at the nearby pub.

Things to do in The Lake District

As you’ve probably noticed, the Lake District is all about reconnecting with nature and spending time in the great British outdoors. No wonder, with all the majestic mountains, lush lakes, and beautiful beaches along with wonderful woodlands. Whether you’re looking for a proper adventure or a leisurely stroll, there’s something for you here.

Walking and cycling

Arguably two of the best ways to enjoy a gorgeous landscape, you’ll have plenty of trails and routes of various difficulties to choose from anywhere you go in this beautiful district.

Walk or pedal through green forests, up barren hillsides, or along stunning bodies of water while keeping an eye out for wildlife, including red squirrels and domestic animals like sheep or a Fell Pony. You’ll have no problem reaching your daily step count here.

Kayaking and canoeing

The name of this district isn’t lying; there are indeed many lakes perfect for doing some floating or paddling in a kayak or a canoe. Whether you want to bring your own or sort that out when you’re there, spending the day on the water is highly recommended.

Adventures

If hiking and kayaking aren’t thrilling enough for you, you could always get your heart rate up by doing some zip-lining, rock climbing, canyoning, or abseiling in gorgeous surroundings. If your pulse still isn’t high enough, there’s always mountain running to get your heart pumping!

Places to Visit in The Lake District

If you’ve already visited Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England, and Wastwater, the deepest lake, and then thrown in Windermere, the largest lake, for good luck, there are still loads of places to visit in this lovely area.

Beatrix Potter

If you’re a fan of Beatrix Potter, you simply cannot miss the Beatrix Potter Gallery, displaying not only her original artwork but also letters, diaries, and photos that inspired her work. For a more vibrant experience that’s fun for the whole family, The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction is a must.

History and castles

For the history buff, there are several castles that need to go on the to-do list, such as the amazing Lowther Castle & Gardens and the equally stunning Muncaster Castle, both filled to the brim with history. If you’re more interested in the life of the workers, check out Eskdale Mill or Honister Slate Mine.

Museums

There are many fascinating museums to have a look at, including the Lakeland Motor Museum for anyone who likes cars, the family-friendly Windermere Jetty Museum for the boat enthusiast, and The Pencil Museum located in Keswick, home of the first pencil.

Now that you have your campsite, things to do, and places to go, the only thing missing is a vehicle to stay in, but don’t worry - you can hire a motorhome with Yescapa right here!
